The Ring of the Griffins

The Griffits Ring Route

The Griffits Ring bicycle leads through the area of the Słupsk region. It brings the architecture of the region closer to bicycle tourists. The route has a form of a loop, it starts and ends in Swołowo – the capital city of “Plaid Land” (Kraina w Kratę). Located about 14 km away, Słupsk is the most convenient place to start the trip due to its transport connection. To get from Słupsk to Swołowo take the blue trail “Dolina Moszczeniczka” (The Valley of Moszczeniczka River).

To protect the historic rural buildings: wattle and daub made houses, cottages, outbuildings, forges, schools, churches and manors, the so-called “Plaid Land” was created. It is an area of traditional buildings with a timber framing construction. It means black tarred beams and whitewashed fields of fillings, which give the buildings a characteristic, checkered look. Swołowo is the most glittering village in this area. It has a preserved historic spatial layout with numerous timber framing buildings, over 150 years old. The wonderfully reconstructed homesteads now serve as museums and education as the Pomeranian Folk Culture Museum.
