The Warmia-Masuria part of the Green Velo trail starts in Elbląg – the charming little 13th century town. The journey begins on the shore of the Zalew Wiślany (the Vistula Lagoon) and it runs through wide-open areas of the Warmia with its beautiful golden rippling fields of wheat. This part of the road, besides the incredible peace and quiet of the local villages, offers the opportunity to visit several medieval towns with their dominant red color of brick walls of buildings, churches, and castles.
Further on, the route passes through the Mazury (Masuria). Only a few years ago this region was in the final of the competition for the New 7 Wonders of Nature. That is the stunning land of clouds and water, the sky and lakes seem to meet each other, creating one of the most beautiful landscapes in this part of the world.
